Mick Whelan

Academic lead for work package 2 – Building new model solutions

Mick is an environmental scientist specialising in numerical modelling of environmental systems and in understanding the behaviour of pollutants in soil and water. He has published over 90 papers in peer reviewed journals on topics which include the influence of land use on diffuse-source transfers of nitrogen and phosphorus from land to surface waters. He is an Associate Editor for the international peer-reviewed journals Soil Research, Frontiers in Environmental Chemistry and Journal of Agricultural Engineering.

He is also currently a member of the NERC Peer Review College and a member of the UK government’s Expert Committee for Pesticides. Within the Landscape Decisions Programme, Mick has a particular interest in the development and application of new model solutions to inform decision making.
